A man tells someone about a picture he's holding of himself when he was six years old. We can see his breath where ever he is, he's freezing..
(warning! contains spoilers)

His inquisitor asks more about the picture and we see that the man is hooked up to a machine that is pumping a neon blue substance into the back of his brain. His head is shaved where the tube goes in.

The man remembers he was happy that day, then his torturer turns a dial and the man seems to freeze to death in place.

Walter complains about the loathsome, contemptible people "Over There." He's going through his lab covering up all the reflective surfaces. Walter tells Lincoln about Fauxlivia and how the people "Over There" were trying to destroy out world. Astrid reminds him they're trying to make peace.

Olivia comes in to work, surprised that Lincoln beat her in. Astrid points out that he's cute and suggests they go out, but Olivia says she'd just have second thoughts like she always does and then it would be awkward at work. Astrid suggests that maybe Olivia's type doesn't exist. Olivia gets a call.

Broyles shows her a photo of a man with a hole in the back of his head, one of 23 victims. The tissue was exposed to electrical charges. They die of cerebral hypothermia, they freeze from the inside out. Olivia can't believe she hasn't heard of it before. Broyles says it's because they're happening Over There.

Olivia and Broyles go to the bridge and meet with Fauxlivia. Through DNA on the 23rd victim they identified the killer as John McClennan, but he was gone when they got to his house. He has a 220 IQ. They've been looking for him for five years. Fauxlivia wants to borrow our McClennan to get some insight into theirs, by taking him to the other's house. Fauxlivia points out she got a lot of insight into Olivia by living in her apartment.

On our side, McClennan is a professor of forensic psychology who studies serial killers. They think they can take him over without him knowing he's in a parallel universe.

Olivia meets with him, asking him to profile the killer. Olivia tells him he can't know where they're going and he'll have to be tranquilized. He goes along.

Norristown, Pennsylvania, Over There

Fauxlivia puts on a blonder wig to pass for Olivia for McClennan. She'll be escorting him through the other McClennan's house while Olivia waits in the van. They bring the still-knocked out Prof McClennan in.

At a gas station, serial killer McClennan watches a mom and her daughter get gas.

In his lab, Walter listens to Mozart in front of a giant wall of speakers. Astrid comes in and turns it off. She's concerned; he's been over-medicating. He won't tell her if anything else is going on.

McClennan looks around his doppleganger's house and says he's highly intelligent, probably self-taught and is fascinated by the brain. He ordered a lot of parts online from overseas for the schematics he designed. They don't know what they're for.

Olivia listens in the car with the Other Lincoln.

McClennan finds an egg hatching device, his dad had one on a farm. He looks around and thinks his doppelganger grew up feeling deprived and is trying to make up for it. He has a freezer full of TV dinners, meaning dinner is important. McClennan announces the killer hunts during the day, blending into his surroundings.

At the gas station, the killer watches mom pump gas while the little girl goes to the bathroom.

Back at his house, McClennan recognizes a chair from the house he grew up in. He loved it. There's a wall full of photos of people. McClennan thinks the killer is jealous of them, he hates that they have happy lives. He says he takes people when they're happy because he wants to feel better.

The girl comes back from the bathroom and finds her mom is gone.

McClennan recognizes an old photo of a man by a tractor -- it's his father. He starts to get upset, asking if this is a joke. Olivia hears and goes to talk to him. He sees her outside, two Olivias. Down the street, something is encased in amber. "Where am I?" he asks.

Fauxlivia is mad at herself for not taking the pictures down. Lincoln urges her to give Olivia time with him. Inside the house, Olivia explains that some things are the same in this universe, but people make different choices.

McClenna is troubled by the fact the killer is him. He says he knew he had darkness in him, and so did his dad. He used "a heavy hand" to address it. Olivia says she also came from an abusive home.

McClennan says he does what he does to help people like him. Fauxlivia asks if he's ever acted on it. He says no, but he wanted to. He says a woman named Marjorie taught him how to find happiness and step out of the darkness into the light. Now he knows what his life would have been like without her.

McClennan wishes he could teach his doppelganger things don't have to be this way. Olivia reminds him he can't know he exists.

Fauxlivia gets a call about the woman abducted from the gas station, they have killer McClennan on surveillance at the scene.

Fauxlivia goes in to get Prof. McClennan and finds that he's gone.

Back at Fringe HQ, they report they think the professor is trying to stop the killer.

Astrid makes calculations showing that facial recognition will take 13 hours to find him. Olivia tells Faux that she saw the plates of the tractor McClennan's father was standing next to. (She has a photographic memory.) She suggests they trace them.

Killer McClennan shaves the back of the mom's head and prepares to drill into her skull. He hears a noise. The professor walks in.

Lincoln tells the Fringers about the farm they've located.

Prof tells the Killer it doesn't have to be like this, he doesn't have to hurt her. Killer goes for something and Prof stops him by telling him what gun he's going for and where it is.

Prof. says one night in October he went to a fair and his dad found the dead things. They were playing ring toss when his dad came. Killer hid, but his dad found him and beat him for three days. Prof. ran and woke up in a field, where Marjorie found him. Because of her, Prof doesn't have to do what Killer does to stop the pain.

Killer says this is the only way to stop the urges, but Prof says he can control them. He wants to help him like Marjorie helped him. Prof asks him if he wants the pain to end. Killer says yes, but then knocks Prof out with a can.

In the car, Fauxlivia asks Olivia about what she said about her step-father. Fauxlivia asks what happened to him. "My step father? I killed him," Olivia says.

They pull up to the farm house.

Inside, Killer McClennan has attached probes to his doppelganger. He lifts his hair and attaches the other end to a port in his own head. Killer asks Prof, who is already freezing, about his happiest memories and asks about Marjorie.

Fringe teams bust into the farm house, which seems empty and abandoned. They find an empty room; they're in the wrong place.

They search the property outside. Lincoln is interested in a burned out structure. He finds a cellar door. He and Olivia go down the stairs.

Prof McClennan tells the killer about Marjorie and how kind she was. They share memories of her, including her finding things he killed and forgiving him for it. Prof tells Killer he doesn't have to do it anymore.

Olivia and Lincoln creep into the room to find Prof. McClennan hooked up to the machine and the woman alive on the floor, but sedated. Olivia finds the killer in the other room, crying, lamenting what he did, taking Marjorie from his doppleganger. Before Olivia can react, he turns with a gun in his hand and shoots himself in the head.

Back on our side,Olivia visits Prof. McClennan in the hospital, where he's recovering. He has no memory of the past few weeks, but he also has no memories of Marjorie. They were extracted. Olivia and Broyles realize she might be the only thing preventing him from becoming a killer like his doppelganger. He was told he was injured doing profile work for the FBI.

He doesn't remember Olivia. She tells him he saved a woman's life, and probably many more. He's flat and cold. She asks him if he remembers Marjorie. He doesn't. As she's leaving he tells her that even when it's darkest, you can step into the light.

Olivia is glad to hear it. He remembers what Marjorie taught him, even if he doesn't remember her. (Much like with them and Peter.) Broyles says he's always thought there are people who leave an indelible mark on your soul.

Back in his office, Walter gets into his sofa bed. He turns out the light. He hears Peter's voice, telling him he's there. Walter freaks out, thinking he's hearing things. He hears Peter saying, "I'm right here!" He asks for help, but Walter only cranks up his music and covers his ears.
